Stephen Graham Jones Discusses TRUE BELIEVERS: A Comic Book Miniseries Exploring the Intersection of Cosplay and Horror Conventions

“True Believers Comic Series Debuts at Colorado Festival of Horror with Exclusive Preview and Kickstarter Launch”

The Colorado Festival of Horror is buzzing with excitement as cosplayers flock to the event to celebrate the new horror movie icon, Killr™. However, two fans, Rip and Kit, are taking their obsession to a whole new level in the upcoming comic book series, True Believers. Co-written by Stephen Graham Jones and Joshua Viola with artwork by Ben Matsuya, True Believers will debut exclusively at the festival from September 15th–17th.

In an interview with Stephen Graham Jones, he shared the origins of the project and the collaboration with Viola and Matsuya. The first issue of True Believers introduces a bone-chilling new slasher character, Killr™, who becomes a favorite among fans at the festival. As the lines between reality and fiction blur, Rip and Kit, self-proclaimed “true believers,” embark on a journey that challenges their connection with the enigmatic entity they revere.

Joshua Viola describes Killr™ as a pure distillation of evil within the slasher genre, offering a fresh perspective on cosplay and fandom. The series features haunting variant covers by renowned horror comic artists, adding to the immersive experience for fans.

The Kickstarter campaign for True Believers is now live, offering fans the opportunity to support the project and pick up exclusive goodies, including a Killr™ mask. The series also includes a CD/Digital soundtrack featuring tracks that enhance the eerie atmosphere of the story.

True Believers aims to provide thought-provoking commentary on fandom and the meaning of being a devoted “true believer.” For updates and to support the project, follow Hex Publishers on Twitter and Facebook. Whether you’re attending the Colorado Festival of Horror or following the Kickstarter campaign, True Believers promises to deliver a gripping and grisly experience for horror fans everywhere.
