Sacramento comic book store robbed twice in one week, leaving owner feeling numb

Sacramento Comic Book Shop Owner Faces Second Burglary: Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards and Transformers Toys Stolen Again

Sacramento Comic Book Shop Owner Grapples with Second Burglary

Dave Downey, the owner of World’s Best Comics & Toys in Arden Arcade, is facing a tough situation after experiencing not one, but two burglaries at his store in the span of a few days.

The first burglary occurred earlier this week when a suspect smashed glass and stole valuable collectibles, including “Yu-Gi-Oh!” trading cards and “Transformers” toys. Despite trying to patch up his store and move forward, Downey was hit with a second burglary on Thursday, with the same suspect returning to steal the same items once again.

“I felt pretty numb that it could happen so quickly,” Downey said in a phone interview about the second incident. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating both burglaries.

The suspect seemed to have a specific target in mind, focusing on the “Transformers” toys and “Yu-Gi-Oh!” cards, leaving behind other valuable items in the store. Downey expressed concern that some of the stolen items may be irreplaceable for collectors.

The losses from both incidents are estimated to be around $6,000, not including the additional costs of cleaning up broken glass, filing insurance claims, and enhancing security measures. Downey even took to social media to share the challenges of installing a metal gate around his shop to prevent further break-ins.

Despite the setbacks, Downey remains positive, crediting his loyal customers for their unwavering support. “I probably have the best customers in the world,” he said. “It’s really been impactful and emotional to hear everyone’s support.”

As the investigation continues, Downey is determined to bounce back and continue serving the comic book and toy community in Sacramento.
