Atlantic Entertainment Expo Draws Thousands of Pop Culture Fans to Charlottetown’s Delta Hotel

The Atlantic Entertainment Expo Brings Pop Culture Fans Together in Charlottetown

Charlottetown’s Delta Hotel was buzzing with excitement over the weekend as fans of all things pop culture, games, and comics gathered for the fourth annual Atlantic Entertainment Expo. From Beetlejuice to Super Mario Brothers, attendees dressed as their favorite characters lined up through the lobby, eager to geek out and connect with like-minded individuals.

One such attendee was Hunter Bryden, who traveled from Fredericton, N.B., with a group of friends to attend the expo. Bryden was dressed as Diluc from the video game Genshin Impact, showcasing the creativity and passion that goes into costume play, or cosplay. For Bryden, cosplay has been a way to meet new friends and express his creativity, starting as a hobby with his grandmother and continuing into adulthood.

Organized by Alex Maine, the expo welcomed between 4,000 and 5,000 fans over its two days, providing a unique opportunity for fans in P.E.I. to come together and celebrate their shared interests. Maine emphasized the social aspect of the event, noting that it breaks barriers and allows people to connect over their love for pop culture.

Vendors like Exor Games owner Brandon Massey also highlighted the family-friendly environment of the expo, where fans of all ages can discover new games and genres. With the possibility of adding a second AEX on the Island in the future, the event continues to grow in popularity, attracting fans from all over the region.

As P.E.I. resident Mallon Roper dressed as Beetlejuice and Murray River resident Daniel Scott donned a Ghostbusters costume, it was clear that the expo provided a space for fans to immerse themselves in their favorite characters and stories. Comic book artist Troy Little, who has attended all four expos, emphasized the importance of events like AEX in showcasing the work of artists and businesses in the entertainment industry.

Overall, the Atlantic Entertainment Expo proved to be a place where fans could come together, connect with one another, and celebrate their shared love for all things pop culture. With the growing popularity of events like Comic-Con and the accessibility of media through streaming services, AEX continues to attract fans of all ages and backgrounds, spreading smiles and joy throughout the community.
