Josh Gad to collaborate on writing a comic book titled ‘The Writer’

Josh Gad and the Berkowitz Bros: The Writer Comic Series from Dark Horse Comics

Josh Gad, known for his roles in stage and screen as well as the voice of Olaf in Disney’s Frozen movies, is making his mark in the comic book world. After receiving an unexpected email from legendary comic creator Frank Miller, Gad found himself co-writing a comic book with the Berkowitz Bros. The four-issue mini-series, titled The Writer, is set to be published by Dark Horse Comics in June.

The comic follows the story of Stan Siegel, an established author of heroic and fantastical comic books, who is thrust into a Nazi occult-fueled nightmare. Filled with hidden identities, high-speed chases, and demonic chaos, Siegel must become the hero from his own pages and prove that the pen is mightier than the sword.

The idea for The Writer originated with the Berkowitz brothers, who wanted to create a character that represented their Jewish heritage and mythology. Connecting with Gad through their shared manager, the trio began collaborating on the project. Gad, who has always had a fascination with mythological folklore and Jewish mysticism, found a personal connection to the story and was inspired to bring it to life.

The Writer combines elements of Jewish mysticism with a look at the creative process, paying homage to comic book legends like Stan Lee and Jerry Siegel. With art by Ariel Olivetti, a veteran penciller for Marvel and DC, the comic promises to leave a lasting impression on readers.

The first issue of The Writer is set to release on June 19, with a trailer featuring voicework by Gad already available. Fans can look forward to a unique and thrilling comic book experience that brings together elements of fantasy, mythology, and the power of storytelling.
