Celebrate Free Comic Book Day in Salt Lake City with These Events
Comic book enthusiasts of all ages are gearing up for Free Comic Book Day this weekend, a beloved celebration that offers free titles for everyone to enjoy. With a wide range of genres and titles available, there is something for every comic book fan to dive into.
This year’s Free Comic Book Day falls on Saturday, May 4, and participating locations in Utah are ready to welcome attendees with open arms. The Nerd Store, with locations at the Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City and the University Mall in Orem, is planning a day full of fun activities, giveaways, and special guests.
At The Nerd Store, attendees can choose up to five free comic book titles, with one copy per title. In addition to the free comics, guests will have the chance to win exciting prizes, including gift cards, a VR headset, and even a rare R2D2 fish tank at the West Valley location.
Special guests at The Nerd Store locations include comic creators like Tony Fleecs, Doug Wagner, and Michael Lovins at the West Valley store, and cosplayer Joanie Brosas and creator Travis Romney at the Orem location. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. and the giveaway will take place at 6 p.m.
Dr. Volts Comics in Salt Lake City, owned by The Nerd Store, will also be celebrating Free Comic Book Day with giveaways, guests, and comic book deals. Manager Jeff Bell shared that the event is like “our Black Friday” and is a great opportunity for newcomers to discover the world of comics.
At Dr. Volts Comics, attendees can expect up to 80% off trades, manga, and hardcovers, as well as other deals on kids’ books and back issues. Cosplayers from the HEROIC group and guest Christie Sorensen will be in attendance, along with comic creator JC Carter.
Lastly, the Salt Lake City Public Library will also be participating in Free Comic Book Day, offering free comics from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on level two of the main library. With a variety of genres available, attendees are encouraged to arrive early as supplies are limited.
