Contra Costa libraries to host Free Comic Book Days again

Celebrate Free Comic Book Days and Cultural Heritage at the Contra Costa County Library

The Contra Costa County Library system is gearing up for an exciting week of events and activities for all ages. From May 6 through May 11, libraries across the county will be celebrating Free Comic Book Days, offering free comics, take-home activities, and in-person events for comic book enthusiasts of all ages.

One heartwarming scene at the Danville Library captured a mother and son enjoying puzzles together, showcasing the joy and connection that can be found at the library. In addition to free comics, visitors can participate in workshops, register for events, and even find out who won the Free Comic Book Days bookmark contest.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. May is also a month filled with cultural celebrations at the library, with a focus on the heritage of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and Jewish Americans. Booklists featuring captivating stories from these communities will be available, along with free passes to cultural institutions like the Asian Art Museum and Contemporary Jewish Museum through the Discover & Go program.

In mid-May, library patrons will also gain access to the Washington Post, providing expert reporting and analysis on a wide range of topics. Additionally, the library system offers access to dozens of free digital magazines on Flipster, including exclusive titles like People, Time, and Consumer Reports.

For those looking to get involved, the library system’s events calendar is packed with exciting activities, from the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge to a Mother’s Day Plant Swap and a Chinese Calligraphy Workshop. Whether you’re a comic book fan, a lover of culture and heritage, or simply looking for a fun and educational experience, the Contra Costa County Library system has something for everyone. Visit ccclib.org to sign up for a library card and start exploring all the resources and events available.
