C2E2 attracts comic book enthusiasts and gamers to McCormick Place

C2E2 2024: A Recap of the Biggest Comic & Entertainment Expo Yet

The 15th edition of the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) took over McCormick Place with record-breaking attendance numbers, drawing in over 95,000 fans from April 26-28. The event, which started in 2010 with less than 30,000 attendees, has grown into a massive spectacle that continues to captivate fans of all ages.

As attendees entered the South Building of McCormick Place, they were greeted with a plethora of activities and attractions. From the official Funko store offering exclusive merchandise to various booths selling comic books and rare novelty items, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The expo was divided into sections, including a Gaming Zone, a Pop Asia section, and The Yard beer garden for refreshments.

One of the highlights of C2E2 was the emphasis on creating a safe and inclusive space for all attendees. ReedPop, the company behind the event, enforced a strict policy against harassment and bullying, while also providing a designated quiet room for those needing a break from the sensory overload of the convention.

Cosplay enthusiasts had the chance to shine at C2E2, with many attendees donning elaborate costumes and attracting attention from fellow fans. The Cosplay Central Crown Championship winner, Matthew, wowed the crowd with his Iceborne Leather Armor Hunter from Monster Hunter World costume.

Celebrities such as Darren Criss and Cristo Fernandez greeted fans with autograph and photo opportunities, while artists like Jorge Jimenez and Matthew Brennan IV showcased their talents in the Artist Alley. The addition of a Pride Lounge for LGBTQ+ players and allies added a new dimension to the convention, providing a safe space for all attendees to come together.

Panel discussions on queer literature and author appearances, such as Alex Crespo promoting his debut novel, Saint Juniper’s Folly, added depth to the programming at C2E2. The event also featured After Dark events, including dance parties and burlesque shows, offering a diverse range of entertainment options for attendees.

As the 15th edition of C2E2 came to a close, organizers are already looking ahead to the 16th celebration in 2025. Fans can expect even more excitement and surprises at the next event, so be sure to stay tuned for updates on C2E2.com.
