Exclusive: Josh Gad Collaborating on Comic Book ‘The Writer’ Based on Jewish Folklore

Josh Gad Teams Up with Dark Horse Comics for New Comic Series “The Writer”

Josh Gad, best known for his role as the voice of Olaf in Disney’s Frozen movies, is making his mark in the comic book world with a new project. Several years ago, the actor received an unexpected email from legendary comic creator Frank Miller, who asked Gad if he would be interested in writing a comic book. Despite initially feeling intimidated by the idea, Gad has now co-written a comic that will be published by Dark Horse Comics.

The comic, titled The Writer, is a four-issue mini-series written by Gad alongside Ben and Max Berkowitz. The story follows Stan Siegel, an established author of heroic and fantastical comic books, as he is thrust into a Nazi occult-fueled nightmare. Filled with hidden identities, high-speed chases, and demonic chaos, Siegel must become the hero from his own pages and prove that the pen is mightier than the sword.

The idea for The Writer originated with the Berkowitz brothers, who wanted to create a character that represented their Jewish heritage and mythology. Through a connection with Gad’s manager, the trio began collaborating on the project, with Gad finding a personal connection to the story and letting his imagination run wild.

The comic features art by Ariel Olivetti, a veteran penciller who has worked for Marvel and DC on titles such as Daredevil and Punisher War Journal. Olivetti was drawn to the project’s unique story and characters, stating that it was one of those rare projects that leave a lasting impression on both the artist and the readers.

The first issue of The Writer is set to be released on June 19, and fans can check out the trailer featuring voicework by Gad. With a blend of Jewish mysticism, homage to comic book legends, and a look at the creative process, The Writer promises to be a unique and exciting addition to the comic book world.
