Development Underway for Scripted Series Based on Mike Grell’s Jon Sable: Freelance – Latest Updates on Comic Book Movies and Superhero Movie News

Legendary Comics Artist Mike Grell’s Jon Sable: Freelance Series to be Adapted for TV

The announcement of the adaptation of Mike Grell’s iconic series, Jon Sable: Freelance, into a scripted series has comic book fans buzzing with excitement. Grell, known for his work on Green Arrow and Warlord, has a rich history of independent works, with Jon Sable: Freelance being one of his most beloved creations.

The news was shared on Mike Grell’s personal website, with producer Brendan Deneen and Second Act Entertainment attached to the project. Deneen, with a background in book adaptations and experience working with major publishers like Marvel and DC, brings a wealth of knowledge to the production.

This isn’t the first time Jon Sable: Freelance has been adapted for live action. In 1986, ABC produced a short-lived series titled Sable, which took liberties with the source material. Despite its brief run, the show is remembered for launching Rene Russo’s television career.

For those unfamiliar with Jon Sable: Freelance, the series follows the story of Jon Sable, an Olympic athlete turned game warden who becomes a freelance mercenary after a tragic event. Grell’s storytelling and character development set the series apart during the Dark Age of Comics, making it a fan favorite.

In addition to the original series, Grell continued Jon Sable’s story with two miniseries and a novel. Recently, he released omnibus editions through Kickstarter, allowing fans to revisit all the Jon Sable: Freelance adventures in one collection.

The upcoming scripted series adaptation promises to bring Jon Sable’s thrilling and complex world to life for a new generation of fans, honoring Grell’s legacy as a comics legend.
