The Spanish Government Recognizes the Importance of Comic Books

The Spanish Government has recently shown its support for the thriving comic book industry in Spain by presenting the White Book of Comics, the largest study ever conducted on the sector. This significant review was unveiled by Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, along with other government officials and industry representatives.

The White Book of Comics in Spain is the result of contributions from 650 professionals over three years, highlighting the importance of the comic industry in the country. The government not only supports annual Comic Book Day but also promotes the sector at international book fairs and is considering providing specific aid to comic creators.

With over 1,000 Spanish creators, 80 publishers, 200 bookstores, and 122 events, the comic industry in Spain generates more than 1,500 jobs. The annual turnover of the industry is an impressive €130 million, with 4,600 new comics produced each year.

It is worth noting that many children in Spain take their first steps in reading through comics, making them an essential part of the literary landscape. The government’s recognition and support of the comic industry demonstrate its commitment to promoting culture and creativity in the country.
